Venezuelan team obtained an Olympic diploma in men’s epee (+Photos)

Venezuela’s men’s epee team won an Olympic diploma in fencing on Friday, giving national fans their first good news at the Paris 2024 Games, where the country’s representatives have yet to win a medal.

The national team was made up of Rubén, Francisco and Jesús Limardo, as well as Grabiel Lugo. They achieved certification by finishing in seventh place in the competition held at the Grand Palais in Paris.

The team from the Birthplace of Liberator Simón Bolívar had the goal of winning a medal, but was unable to do so because in the first round they had to face Japan, one of the best teams on the planet and the champion of this event in Tokyo 2020, a competition that was held in 2021 due to delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Battle against the Japanese troops

In the duel against the Japanese team, made up of Koki Kano, Masaru Yamada, Kasuyasu Minobi and Akira Komata, Venezuela made a great effort to win, but lost 39-33.

This defeat forced the native team to play a qualifying round in which positions five to eight were decided.
