Shoaib Hashmi, intellectual, teacher, playwright, actor and husband of Faiz Ahmad Faiz’s daughter Salima Hashmi passed away on Monday.

Shoaib Hashmi wrote well-known plays in the 70s, acted and during the 1990s also wrote a column in the newspaper under the name Tal Mutul.

Shoaib Hashmi’s popular dramas include Akkarbakkar, Sachgap and Tal Mittool among others.

Shoaib Hashmi received the Hasan Performance Award in 1995 and was also honored with the Imtiaz Medal.

During this period, I was very young and saw his work in dramas like Akar Bakkar, Sach Gap. But he was such a personality that wherever he sat in the corner, he would light up.’

Bushra Ansari said that ‘Shoaib Hashmi had a great command of conversation, but he had been silent for a long time.’

The Prime Minister said that Shoaib Hashmi played an important role in the golden era of PTV. He introduced a new dimension in comedy programs.

The Prime Minister said that ‘bright values, traditions and ideas were promoted by his pen, he taught civility, politeness and literature to the society. His death is a great loss to society, art and literature.’
