FOR the first time, Indonesia will host the World Greenmech and Robot For Mission (R4M) Competition in 2024, which will be held at the Parahyangan University campus, Bandung, West Java.

World Greenmech 2024 is a world-class robotics competition attended by more than 200 teams from 10 countries, namely Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand, China, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Macau, Mongolia and Vietnam.

In this competition there are 3 competition categories, namely Greenmech and Robot For Mission (R4M) which are participated by elementary, middle, and high school levels, then there is Greenmech Junior which is participated by elementary school level.

Rumah Edukasi as the representative of the world Grenmech association in Indonesia through its Director, Mulia Anton said that this competition uses scientific principles by combining 5 aspects of learning with the term STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) and is divided into 3 levels, namely Elementary School, Middle School, and High School.

“This competition is in line with the Merdeka Belajar Curriculum program from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia to find outstanding talents in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM),” said Anton.

The innovative Robot for Mission (R4M) competition is believed to reflect the “human-machine” combination that makes this competition different from other robot competitions.

In addition, in this competition, in designing robots using STEAM-based scientific principles and creating coding programs, so that the robot can complete its mission. Namely moving goods from one point to another like in a container terminal.

Each team consists of 3 and 4 students who have their respective roles that help each other to complete the mission. Each team is free to make various robot models according to the specifications determined by the committee. Teams can use various devices to operate the robot, such as smartphones, pads, or laptops.

The next branch, Greenmech, is a competition to create a mechanical structure “Rube Goldberg Machine” that connects various mechanical functions and green energy to perform the desired task.

The students appeared to be competing in creativity and skills, such as one participant from Indonesia who created a machine with a series of complex chain reactions to carry out the task of raising the red and white flag.

“This competition encourages creativity and teamwork in the process of solving problems in the STEAM stages,” explained the Jury Coordinator, Janto Vincent Sulungbudi.

This competition is supported by various universities in Indonesia with training for teachers from various cities in Indonesia to prepare their students. Among them are Parahyangan University, Tarumanagara University, Semarang State University and Widya Mandala Catholic University Surabaya.

Parahyangan University Chancellor, Prof. Basuki Joewono said that his party supports the development of STEAM learning starting from elementary school education, junior high school, high school to university level.

Indonesia is the only country in Southeast Asia to host the 2024 World Greenmech.
