The decision to ban Jamaat-e-Islami in Bangladesh – World

The Bangladesh government has decided to ban Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh and its student wing Islami Chhatro Shibir, accusing it of playing a key role in violent riots during the recent student movement.

A meeting of 14 parties of the ruling coalition was held on Tuesday at Gono Bhaban, the official residence of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajid in Dhaka to review the situation during and after the student movement.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Law Minister Obaidul Qadir said that it has been decided to ban Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing for hijacking the student movement and turning the protests into riots.

An executive order is to be issued to ban Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh and its student wing. In this regard, the Minister of Law and the Minister of Interior are going to consult today.

The leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh have described the decision to impose the ban as extremely shameful, illegal, unconstitutional and immoral.

Leaders say that since Sheikh Hasina’s government has failed to control the issues, now scapegoats are being sought so that they can be slaughtered with the knife of accusations.

It should be noted that the leaders of the student movement have been arrested and the government is refusing to release them, so the students have started the movement again. The situation in Bangladesh has not yet returned to normal.
