The Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, has mobilized the governors of the regions and the workers of the prefectures and provinces due to the delay in taking the necessary measures to settle the legal status of the real estate containers forming the weekly markets established on properties belonging to the public property of the state.

Informed sources reported that the minister, in a letter addressed to senior territorial officials, criticized the failure to activate the procedures for owning the aforementioned lands, which are managed by the equipment sector, by the groups that use them to establish markets.

The same sources reported that the Minister of the Interior considered, in the same correspondence addressed to the governors and workers days before the glorious Throne Day, that weekly markets are collective facilities that are of great importance on the economic and social levels, by providing services to users and enabling the groups to have significant self-financial income.

Laftit called on the territorial officials to expedite the follow-up of the groups in the procedures for owning the lands hosting the organized markets during specific periods of the week according to the regions, while stressing the need to protect these real estate vessels against any possible violations.

In addition, Laftit called on the governors and workers to conduct a comprehensive and accurate inventory of all weekly markets established on real estate vessels belonging to the public property of the state, which are still performing their function, in the territorial communities under their territorial jurisdiction, in coordination with the heads of the councils of the concerned communities and representatives of the decentralized services of the equipment sector.

The same correspondence stressed the need to provide the Ministry of Interior with the results of the inventory as soon as possible, so that the competent services in the central administration can assess the status of the properties concerned, in coordination with their partners, and explore legal means to settle their status.

This comes at a time when Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit revealed, during a session of the House of Advisors last May, the allocation of an initial financial envelope worth one billion dirhams for the weekly markets rehabilitation program, which his ministry prepared with its partners, explaining that this program will be financed by the Ministry of Interior with 500 million dirhams, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries with 250 million dirhams, and the Ministry of Industry and Trade with 250 million dirhams.
