“Disney Treasure”: Huge cruise ship left Meyer Werft’s construction dock

A dpa photographer reported that there was a large fireworks display during the undocking. According to previous information from the shipyard, the “Disney Treasure” offers 1,250 passenger cabins. The ship is powered by liquefied natural gas.

At the customer’s request, the shipyard itself did not release any information about the undocking maneuver, said a company spokesman. The ship’s transfer across the Ems towards the North Sea will probably take place in September – the Lower Saxony State Office for Water Management, Coastal Protection and Nature Conservation (NLWKN) has already announced that the Ems barrage in Gandersum will be closed in the second half of September, which is necessary for the ship’s transfer.

Meyer Werft, known worldwide for its cruise ships, is currently fighting for its survival. The shipyard must receive commitments for urgently needed loans by mid-September at the latest. An increase in equity capital of 400 million euros is also necessary. The federal and state governments are currently examining whether and to what extent they can help the ailing shipyard. Due to the collapse of the global tourism market during the Corona pandemic, the shipyard, with its more than 3,000 employees, slipped into the red.
