A black Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) with police number RI 75 carrying the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Lieutenant General TNI Suharyanto, cut through the main streets of Balikpapan City towards Penajam Paser Utara Regency today, Saturday (3/8). After traveling for approximately two hours, the wheels of the car carrying the Head of BNPB and his entourage crushed the land that would become the site of the Indonesian Capital City (IKN).
Entering the IKN area, Suharyanto saw how the capital city development project was still ongoing. Various types of heavy vehicles and trucks passed by along with workers who were busy completing their work.
After a while, the convoy’s car stopped at a location that would later become the BNPB guest house and office in the IKN area. The Head of BNPB then got off and prayed led by the Main Secretary of BNPB, Rustian, with the hope that the construction of the BNPB building could begin soon and be completed within the specified time target.
“We see the prospective BNPB office. The land is already there. The atmosphere is good. Hopefully we can build and move here soon. So that disaster management throughout Indonesia can be carried out from this place as the center of government,” said Suharyanto.
The presence of the BNPB Office in the IKN area will certainly provide full support to maintain resilience in the field of disasters. Not only in the IKN area, the presence of BNPB in the heart of Indonesia will also strengthen the resilience of the nation as a center for disaster management with a primary focus on reducing disaster risks, as directed by President Joko Widodo to always maximize prevention efforts.
“Later, this will become a center for disaster management in the country, from Sabang to Merauke, from Miangas to Rote Island, we can handle it better,” said Suharyanto.

The BNPB office in the IKN area will later have a land area of approximately 1.5 hectares. To the left of the BNPB office will stand the Basarnas building and to the right is the Ministry of Tourism office. The construction of the new BNPB office will later carry the concept of an environmentally friendly IKN and friendly to nature.
“We will follow the IKN concept. Hopefully this can be more environmentally friendly. We will design the office to be environmentally friendly,” said Suharyanto.
The presence of the Head of BNPB in the IKN area is of course also to ensure that efforts to redistribute rainfall using the Weather Modification Technology (TMC) method run as expected, so that the construction of the IKN can be completed according to the targeted time.

“We want to ensure that the TMC operation held by BNPB runs smoothly. If we look at the weather today there is no rain, so it practically supports the IKN development target,” said Suharyanto.
On the other hand, BNPB has also coordinated with the Indonesian Capital City Authority to implement a contingency plan in anticipation of potential wet hydrometeorological disasters such as floods and landslides there. BNPB has submitted a disaster risk assessment concept which will then be considered as a form of disaster risk reduction effort.
“We also continue to coordinate with the IKN Authority to prepare for potential wet hydrometeorological disasters,” explained Suharyanto.

TMC operations for the East Kalimantan region have started since July 15, 2024 until today with a total of 119 flight sorties with a total of 111 tons of NaCl and 8 tons of CaO as seeding material.
This rainfall redistribution effort was carried out using a maximum scheme in which the seeding of NaCl and CaO materials was carried out from morning until sometimes until night using two planes flown from APT Pranoto Airport in Samarinda.
