Ana Peleteiro has no problems at the triple jump final

Spanish athlete Ana Peleteiro qualified without any problems and quickly for the triple long jump final at the Paris Olympic Games, where she is one of the favourites, and gave the first good news in the opening of the events in the stadium.

The Galician, current European champion and bronze medallist three years ago in Tokyo, needed to jump 14.35 metres to secure her ticket to the final medal fight. She did so in the first of her jumps, with 14.36, and then she did not jump any more in her group where there were other medal hopefuls such as the Cuban Leyanis Pérez, who made the best jump of all the participants with 14.68, and the Jamaican Shanieka Ricketts, who did it with the second (14.47).

Along with these three jumpers, favourites to take over from the absent Yulimar Rojas on the Olympic throne, other candidates also made it to the podium, such as the also Cuban Liadagmis Povea (14.39) or the Ukrainian Maryna Bekh-Romanchuk (14.30).

On the other hand, in the morning session, there was not so good news, with the three representatives of the 1,500 meters, Adel Mechal (3:35.81), Ignacio Fontes (3:37.50) and Mario García (3:37.90) having to go through the repechage to be in the semifinals after not being able to get into the top six of each series.

Something similar happened to the eight-hundred-meter runners Lorena Martín (2:02.52) and Lorea Ibarzabal (2.00.71), who were unable to directly qualify for the final and will also need to go through to the repechage, while things were worse for Marta García in the 5,000 meters, where she was eliminated after finishing tenth (15:08.87) in a series where only the first eight in each series qualified.
