The National Cake 2024: Here are the winning desserts!

The 2024 winners of the National Cake competition, which will be held for the 18th time this year, have been announced. This time, the creation of Vác confectioner Alfréd Kovács, the imaginatively named “POPPY FLOWER” cake, can bear the title of Hungary’s Cake this year. Hungary’s Sugar-Free Cake competition was won by Ádám Novák and László Csonka, confectioners from Szeged, with a creation called “Green Raspberry”.

This year, the Hungarian Confectionery Industry Association announced the “Cake of Hungary” competition for the eighteenth time to celebrate our national holiday on August 20, Hungary’s symbolic birthday.

The 2024 competition was announced on the topic of superfoodsnew, creative cakes were expected to be nominated, the preparation of which had to use at least two ingredients from the following domestic foods:

  • berries: blueberries, black currants, rose hips, blackberries
  • grains, seeds: hemp seed, flax seed, spelt, millet
  • vegetables: beets, pumpkins, carrots, sweet potatoes
  • oily seeds: walnuts, almonds, pumpkin seeds, hazelnuts.
  • raw materials recommended for use were also: sea buckthorn, rowan, blackberry, honey, poppy, gooseberry, strawberry, raspberry, prune, blue grape, dark chocolate, oats.

The country’s cake in 2024: POPPY FLOWER

The maker of the winning cake, Alfréd Kovács (Edes Vonal Confectionery – for Vác). – who feels like the “poppiest” person in the world – the cake evokes memories of poppy seed dough, black currants plucked in the garden and his grandmother who offered him fresh cookies.

A fairy-tale cake in which the defining flavors of your childhood are captured. In addition to the soft texture of the white chocolate cream, the taste of tart black currants, the crunchy experience of poppy seed sponges with almond flour and black sesame seed grillage meet.

Poppy, poppy oil, black currant and black sesame! Individually, they are wonderful ingredients, not only in terms of their medicinal effects, which have been known for centuries, but also in terms of their taste. In this cake, the creamy-soft texture is harmoniously combined with the crunchy layer, while the sweet and sour flavors perfectly balance each other.

The 2nd and 3rd places in the country’s cake in 2024:

The second place is Sándor Fodor (Habcsók Confectionery, Budapest) was won by the “Rigófütty” cake made by Ádám Novák and Noémi Domonkos (REÖK Artisan Patisserie and Café, Szeged) finished his work.

The cake of the sugar-free country in 2024: Green Raspberry

This year’s sugar-free winning cake was “Green Raspberry”, whose creators are Ádám Novák and László Csonka from Szeged Reök Artisan Patisserie and Coffee House confectioners.

The cake is red like raspberry, green like pistachio, elegant like rose: the winners play with colors in their lightweight creations. The pleasantly sweet taste of the green pistachio mousse is complemented by the acidity of the bright red raspberry jelly, and the rose water makes it even more special. The pistachio is crunchy with the white chocolate and also appears in the sponge in the form of flour. The cake is crowned with bright, rosewater raspberry jelly and dried rose petals.

The energy content of one slice of “Green Raspberry” is 232.4 kcal, and the carbohydrate value is 10.5 g, so it can be a good choice for diabetics, but it is recommended for everyone who is careful about the ingredients of what they eat.

Hungary’s Sugar-Free Cake competition is announced every year by the Egy Csepp Figyelem Foundation together with the Hungarian Confectionery Industry Association, in parallel with the Hungary’s Cake competition.

Where can you taste the country’s cake?

From August 19, you can taste the cakes in Magyar Ízek Utcá in the Várkert Bazaar and in hundreds of pastry shops across the country. From August 17, you can find the list of selling confectioneries at www.cukraszat.net page, the list is expected to expand every day until August 19.

In order to protect the quality of the cakes, the recipes will only be made public from the end of the year this year, until then only members of the Industry Council can make them.
