Red asks the state to buy up homes and rent them out

– Tenants in Norway have weak rights, and there are almost no alternatives to the commercial rental market. In this area, we are a sinker in Europe, says the party’s housing policy spokesperson, Tobias Drevland Lund.

Large real estate players such as Ragde Eiendom and Heimstaden have recently started selling their rental properties. They justify this with, among other things, high debt, high interest rates, changes in tax policy, and the fact that it has become less or no longer profitable to engage in letting.

The party believes it is urgent to get more affordable rental housing in place.

– Can’t see the residential sharks

Rødt does not want the government to put its plans on tightening the rental regulations on hold.

– The tenants’ rights must be strengthened, and the Storting must not allow itself to be pressured into scrapping a much-needed tightening of the regulations because it is feared that landlords will sell, says Drevland Lund.

– Property has been extremely lucrative for investors in Norway. It is not the housing sharks that are to blame.

High prices and empty new buildings

The rental market is the worst in Oslo. In five years, 13.3 per cent of rental properties in the capital have disappeared from the market, i.e. 7,868 rental properties. Now there are around 51,500 homes left shows, tall from the Norwegian Estate Agents’ Association.

Fewer homes on the rental market and general high price growth in recent years have also pushed prices up. This applies to the rest of the housing market, where high prices are forecast for a long time to come, including in a rapport from Social Economic Analysis from this spring.

At the same time, analyzes from DNB Eiendom Nybygg, which Today’s business wrote about earlier in the week, concluded that there are almost 10,000 new unsold homes on the market.

Wants Danish housing conditions

When the prices of housing, both rent and ownership, are expensive and thousands of new homes are empty at the same time, Rødt believes that there is something wrong with the system for housing construction in Norway.

– Now the authorities must take the initiative to build many new homes to own and rent with regulated prices, as they have done with great success in Denmark, says Drevland Lund.
