Duma Speaker: Maduro achieved legitimate victory despite Washington’s attempts to destabilize his country

“Venezuelans voted for President Maduro, and our observers confirmed the legitimacy of his victory, albeit by a small margin,” Volodin wrote in a post on Telegram.

He added: “Venezuela elected its president and the authorities sought to find compromises and dialogue with the United States, which promised to lift sanctions if the Washington-backed opposition was allowed to participate in the elections.”

He said: “The elections were held under these conditions, but they did not achieve the result that Washington had counted on. The result is known: unrest in Caracas, and attempts to destabilize the country by the opposition fueled by the White House. The United States is engaging in these practices after losing its followers.”

He continued: “We must understand from what is happening in Venezuela that Washington is playing by its own rules, to maintain its hegemony and expand its influence. Any outcome other than the victory of its candidate is unacceptable to it.”

“Lies, provocations, double standards, pursuing goals through others, and interfering in the affairs of countries are integral methods of US policy,” he said.

The National Electoral Council declared Nicolas Maduro president-elect for the period 2025-2031, and according to the Electoral Council, he obtained 51% of the votes.

Protests erupted in Venezuela, and clashes began in Caracas between police and demonstrators, who began throwing stones and Molotov cocktails at security forces.
