THE Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is opening up the opportunity to conduct an investigation into alleged misuse of the Hajj quota, as long as the evidence obtained for the allegations is sufficient.

“Yes, if the report is complete, there is a good chance it will be followed up to the next stage, namely investigation,” said KPK spokesperson, Tessa Mahardhika Sugiarto, at the KPK’s Red and White Building, South Jakarta, Friday (2/8).

There is more than one report of alleged misuse of the hajj quota. All complaints received are currently being analyzed by the KPK.

“The process, as I have said several times, will of course be reviewed, the completeness of the administration and the completeness of the documents will be checked. If complete, of course it can be forwarded to a more advanced level, in this case an investigation,” said Tessa.

The KPK ensures that no complaints are ignored. However, the level of confidentiality of the reports will be maintained by the Anti-Corruption Agency.

Minister of Religious Affairs (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Qoumas and Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs (Wamenag) Saiful Rahmat Daisuki were the parties reported to the KPK. The two officials were considered to be responsible for the alleged misappropriation of the hajj quota that received the attention of the DPR.

Previously, the KPK responded to the DPR’s special committee (pansus) plan to investigate the misuse of the hajj quota. The Anti-Corruption Agency is ready to assist in the investigation of the incident.

“The KPK welcomes the special committee that was formed. Of course, if later there is a request from the DPR for KPK assistance, we will see in what capacity the KPK can assist the activity,” said KPK spokesperson Tessa Mahardhika Sugiarto at the KPK’s Red and White Building, South Jakarta, Friday (12/7).

Tessa has not been able to detail the steps her party will take on the request. However, the KPK is ready to open a case if there are indications of corruption.

“Maybe if there are indications of corruption there, then later, both prevention and action can be taken. But of course so far we have not taken any action. But in principle, the KPK welcomes it positively,” said Tessa. (P-5)
