JUSUF Kalla believes all countries want peace between Palestine and Israel. Therefore, the death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh must be handled better. If not, he fears a major war will destroy the Middle East.

“Indeed, if it is not handled well, it could spread. So calm is needed. Iran and Turkey have strong weapons capabilities, but I think it will destroy the entire Middle East if they all launch a big war,” said the 10th and 12th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Jusuf Kalla or JK, after attending the funeral of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Qatar.

As is known, JK flew to Qatar to attend Haniyeh’s funeral directly. JK’s arrival was to fulfill the hopes of the Palestinian people to attend the funeral as a delegation from Indonesia.

“This fulfills the hope of sending an Indonesian delegation there and we were invited to attend the funeral of the late Ismail Haniyeh,” said JK at Soekarno Hatta Airport before leaving for Qatar, the day before.

Indonesia, JK continued, is trying two things. “We want to encourage their efforts to unite (Hamas and Fatah) and encourage a just peace between Palestine and Israel,” JK stressed.

The PMI General Chair’s communication with the late Haniyeh was carried out on a special mission in an effort to resolve the conflict between Hamas and the Fatah movement. For JK, reconciliation is important in uniting forces to realize Palestinian independence.

Both Hamas and Fatah have tried to hold the meeting. They even held a meeting in Beijing. According to JK, the late Haniyeh hoped to come to Indonesia with Fatah figures after Beijing.

“But today, Haniyeh was called to God’s mercy,” said JK when he heard Haniyeh died after being attacked in Tehran. (Z-2)
