Three projects addressing key challenges related to smart and eco-cities (climate-smart cities) were awarded on Wednesday in Rabat, at the end of the seventh edition of the DigiGirlz mentoring program.

These projects propose innovative solutions in the fields of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).
DigiGirlz from Ifrane won first place with their project “”, a system to monitor, manage and optimize domestic water consumption through smart meters connected to a mobile application.
The second place went to the Fez team’s BusTruckr project, which provides real-time bus tracking services in the city of Fez as well as electronic payment services through a mobile application.
Third place was awarded to the NadifTech project by the Mohammedia team, which aims to raise awareness about the importance of waste management by connecting communities to smart waste bins and providing a mobile application to facilitate the process.
The jury decided to award the Berrchid team the special “Coup de coeur” prize for the SUNTRIX project, an innovative solar panel maintenance system. A drone equipped with an infrared camera and artificial intelligence can detect hot spots and dust, triggering a specialized robot to clean and cool the panels.
The DigiGirlz mentoring program is organized and implemented by Association Anoual, an organization that empowers young leaders through social innovation and entrepreneurship. Founded in 2005 by a group of visionary young activists, Association Anoual is committed to creating innovative solutions to social challenges. In partnership with the U.S. Embassy in Morocco, the program equips young girls with essential skills to build a better future.
Event Highlights: The national event took place at the Rabat Training and National Forum Centre on July 30-31. It brought together 180 mentors and trainees from more than 60 Moroccan cities for inspiring sessions and STEM workshops led by experts.
On the second day of the event, 37 teams presented 44 projects they had developed in the past six months. These projects addressed key challenges related to smart and green cities and provided innovative solutions in the field of STEM. Ultimately, ten outstanding projects were selected as finalists, and the teams convincingly presented their prototypes, impressing the jury members and celebrating this year’s 3 winning projects.
To date, more than 3,000 girls from 12 regions of Morocco have participated in the DigiGirlz mentoring program, creating and developing more than 400 projects that have had a positive impact on communities across the country.
