Diplomats, however, are committed to avoiding escalation. Hezbollah, for its part, has assured that it will respond to any Israeli attack. A senior source from the Shiite group told Al Jazeera: “We take Israeli threats seriously and are fully prepared for the issue. The term ‘raid’ refers to a hard and limited attack which means nothing to us, because it is aggression regardless of its size”.

The mediators “asked us not to respond to the expected aggression and we informed them of our refusal. We will definitely respond to any Israeli attack. The resistance leadership will decide on the form and scale of the response to any potential aggression.” The source claims that Hezbollah is capable of bombing military installations in Haifa, the Golan and Ramat David in a harsh and violent manner. “We do not expect a ground invasion, even a limited one, of Lebanon, but we are in a state of full preparation. The ground invasion of Lebanon will be an incentive to set foot in Galilee.”
