Paris Olympics: the challenges of Orange’s very special partnership

This is what is called a binding partnership. “Connectivity must be impeccable,” stressed the president of Paris 2024, Tony Estanguet, when he announced, four years ago, the arrival of Orange among the premium partners of the organizing committee. The warning was heard. “Our networks will be the foundation of everything that will happen during these Olympic Games,” summarizes Jean-François Fallacher, the head in France of the group led by Christel Heydemann, speaking of an “immense responsibility.”

From the broadcast of the opening ceremony filmed from the Seine with private 5G cameras to the results of the 100m final, all the live broadcasts go through Orange networks before being transferred to Alibaba’s computer servers. Unlike the systems set up in Tokyo or Rio, the former France Telecom is the only telecom operator responsible for connecting the 120 competition sites.
