13,000 sheep and goats have been killed so far out of the fifteen million that exist in Greece. However, the plague, recorded on July 8, in less than a month crossed the sea and was transported to Crete.

ERT journalist Giorgos Papadakis presents the situation in detail, which causes great concern to the island’s livestock farmers.

In the middle of summer with so many events and weddings, the consumption of sheep and goats is the highest of the year. What will happen if the disease spreads to other units is the question that concerns local agencies and society?

According to the report, the veterinary service of the Region of Crete has found two cases, from herds coming from France. The identified units concern 400 animals which will be killed, while a security zone of ten km is created around the units. “It was only a matter of time before the disease was transferred from the animals that “parked” initially in Larissa, where they were probably infected by the plague, which had already appeared in the area.”
