New complaint arises against Boluarte for deaths in protests

The Peruvian Prosecutor’s Office presented this Tuesday a new constitutional complaint against the president, Dina Boluarte, for the alleged crimes of qualified homicide, serious and minor injuries that occurred in past protests.

The Area of Illicit Enrichment and Constitutional Complaints presented the measure before the Congress of the Republic, the institution in charge of receiving it, which recently rejected another constitutional complaint against Boluarte for these deaths.

Pedro Angulo, former head of the Council of Ministers, is also charged with the same charges; Jorge Chávez, former Minister of Defense; Vicente Romero, former Minister of the Interior, among other former officials.

In its statement, the Public Ministry specified that the alleged events refer to the 44 people who died and 116 who suffered serious and minor injuries in the demonstrations between December 7, 2022 and February 9, 2023.

Likewise, he confirmed that they chose to file the crime of genocide, as the current head of the Council of Ministers, Gustavo Adrianzén, had already anticipated earlier.

Boluarte, in power since December 2022, has faced countless constitutional complaints that have little by little been discarded by Congress. Last February, for example, up to three constitutional complaints were filed.
