Ernesto Samper and Leonel Fernández ask for detailed results of the elections

Ernesto Samper and Leonel Fernández, former presidents of Colombia and the Dominican Republic, respectively, asked the National Electoral Council (CNE) to ensure the detailed publication of the results of the presidential elections in Venezuela.

The situation has been a constant, especially after the discontent caused by the proclamation of Nicolás Maduro as the winner of the elections despite the fact that the electoral body only published a bulletin and, despite indicating that the difference was irreversible, the figures did not give the mathematical victory to the official candidate.

In a joint statement, Samper and Fernández indicated that the publication of the complete results would be a fundamental first step so that interested parties can make a review and subsequent pronouncement..

The former presidents of the region were invited as international observers by the CNE; however, questioned the legitimacy of the process, as well as the results announced by the president of the organization, Elvis Amoroso.

Likewise, in the statement they called on the population to avoid acts of violence that lead to “death, destruction and pain”.

At midnight on Monday, the CNE declared victory to Maduro, with approximately 80% of the tables counted, receiving 51.2% of popular support versus 44.2% in favor of Edmundo González Urrutia.
