During the hearing of the Election Commission and Chief Election Commissioner defamation case against the former prime minister and founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the Election Commission, PTI lawyer Shoaib Shaheen and members of the Election Commission got heated.
The case of contempt of Election Commission and Chief Election Commissioner against Imran Khan was heard by a 4-member bench headed by member Election Commission Sindh.
PTI lawyer Shoaib Shaheen took the position that we were not aware of the hearing in the Election Commission, we did not receive any notice regarding the hearing, we did not know that the Election Commission did not conduct a trial in jail.
The Election Commission member said that the date was announced in the last hearing in the jail, Shoaib Shaheen said that it is an abuse, Tehreek-e-Insaf is not even getting a level playing field, the Election Commission is also taking contempt action against us. .
A member of the Election Commission of Balochistan said that if they abuse us, we should not do anything further. On this, Shoaib Shaheen said that the PDM parties did not say anything against the Supreme Court, no one called them.
Shoaib Shaheen further said that the people are looking towards the Election Commission, leaflets have been cut against 150 of our people in Rahim Yar Khan.
Member Election Commission Sindh said that the way the accused behaved in the jail, we also tolerated it.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission adjourned further hearing of the case till January 24.
Later, Shoaib Shaheen while talking to the media said that we were not even told the procedure of today’s hearing, we got to know about the hearing from the media.
He said that there is no production order of Imran Khan and the case is going on in his absence.
He further said that the indictment was filed in my absence, how was the indictment filed against him whose lawyer is not present?
It should be noted that on January 3, during the previous hearing of the contempt of election commission case, Imran Khan and former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry were indicted.
In August 2022, the Election Commission issued a contempt notice to Imran Khan, Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry during various meetings, press conferences and interviews, and also issued a notice to the Chief Election Commissioner for contempt of the Election Commission.
In the notice, the Election Commission mentioned Imran Khan’s various statements, speeches, baseless allegations leveled against him during press conferences and the words, false statements and fabricated allegations used against Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja. Khan was issued a notice to appear before the commission with his reply on August 30.
The spokesperson of the Election Commission said that the Election Commission has issued contempt notices to Imran Khan, Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry and asked them to appear in person or through a lawyer on August 30.
The notice said that according to PEMRA records, Imran Khan used ridiculous and unparliamentary language against the Election Commission in his speeches, press conferences and statements on May 11, May 16, June 29, July 19, 20 and August 7. , made derogatory statements and made baseless allegations which were broadcast live on mainstream TV channels.
