Guatemala He had barely won a medal in 60 years since he began competing in the Olympic Games (Érick Barrondo in 2012) and in the Paris 2024 edition he won two in just 24 hours of each other.
Adriana Ruano gave the dream ending to her performance at the Paris Games by finishing with the gold metal that will go straight to the history books of Guatemalan sport.
Ruano gave a demonstration of his excellent marksmanship after two days of qualifying, where he qualified for the medal event by shooting down 122 targets out of a total of 125; this mark allowed him to enter the final at the Chateauroux Shooting Range in third place after a tie-breaking round.
Her historic performance began to take shape on the first day of qualifying when she hit 73 of 75 projectiles, placing her in fifth position heading into the final two shooting rounds held in the early hours of July 31.
Of his remaining 50 targets in rounds four and five, he hit 49, enough to qualify for the medal race at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre.
In the final event she faced the Spanish Mar Molné and Fátima Galvez, the Italian María Silvana and the Chinese Cuicui Wu.
In the first round, Adriana demonstrated total mastery with her weapon by hitting 16 targets in a row and finishing as the leader with 23 targets achieved.
And in the following rounds she continued with just three errors, totaling 45 shots for the gold and a new Olympic record.
