New quarterly electricity rates will be in effect from August 1st – 2024-08-01 08:11:03

The social energy rates for the social and non-social segments, in effect from August 1 to October 31, were authorized with slight changes, but stable despite the impact of the drought on hydroelectric generation during the months of April to June.

According to the National Electric Energy Commission (CNEE), the non-social tariff segment is set at Q2.27 per kilowatt/hour (kWh) per month for users of the Western Electricity Distributor, SA (Deocsa), and at Q2.15 for those of the Eastern Electricity Distributor, SA (Deorsa). In both cases, the reduction is one cent per kWh.

Meanwhile, the rate for Empresa Eléctrica de Guatemala, SA (EEGSA) consumers in that segment is Q1.45, with a decrease of half a cent.

The Non-Social rate includes consumers of 300 kWh or more, with around 0.2 million users and equivalent to 6% of the country’s users, according to data from the entity.

On the other hand, the Social Rate, which covers consumption from 0 to 300 kWh per month, is Q2.14 per kWh per month for Deocsa users, with a reduction of one and a half cents. For Deorsa customers, it is Q2.06, with a reduction of one cent. And in the case of EEGSA users, it is Q1.37.

The social tariff segment includes 3.4 million families, which represents 94% of the total number of users, according to CNEE.

This group is subsidized with an extraordinary contribution from the National Electrification Institute (Inde) and the central government, a benefit that was extended starting with June consumption, which began to be billed in July. This benefit already applied to consumption of 0 to 88 kilowatt hours per month and was also included for the second half of 2024 for those who consume 89 to 100 kWh per month.

Users should not forget that, apart from the rates mentioned above, the monthly bill includes service charges, the public lighting rate, which varies in each municipality, and 12% value-added tax (VAT).
