Chile will facilitate the departure of Venezuelans with expired passports

The Chilean Government will authorize the departure of Venezuelan citizens with expired passports from the country, after the closure of the Venezuelan Embassy in Chile ordered by the Venezuelan government.

«We have authorized the possibility of leaving the country with an expired passport or expired travel document. This is regardless of the immigration status of the person,” explained the director of the National Migration Service, Luis Eduardo Thayer.

Venezuelans with expired passports will be able to leave Chile without problems

The Venezuelan government has demanded the immediate withdrawal of diplomatic delegations from Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Peru, Panama, the Dominican Republic and Uruguay, in response to their “interference-making actions and statements” regarding Sunday’s presidential elections. In addition, Venezuela has decided to withdraw all its diplomatic personnel from those seven Latin American countries.

Hundreds of Venezuelans have been approaching the diplomatic building in the Providencia neighborhood of Santiago since Monday to obtain information about their procedures, but the embassy is empty and the diplomatic staff will leave Chile in the next few hours, the Chilean government confirmed.
