Joe Biden and Lula da Silva discussed Venezuela

In a statement, the White House reported that President Joe Biden held a conversation today with the President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, to discuss several bilateral issues; “including the emerging political situation in Venezuela following the presidential elections on July 28.”

“President Biden thanked President Lula for his leadership in Venezuela. The two leaders agreed on the need for Venezuelan electoral authorities to immediately release complete, transparent, and detailed voting data at polling stations.”

The statement said that “the two leaders shared the view that the outcome of the Venezuelan elections represents a critical moment for democracy in the hemisphere, and they pledged to continue to coordinate closely on the issue.”

Lula and Biden “also committed to deepening cooperation between our two countries to accelerate the transition to clean energy and to continue promoting the Alliance for Workers’ Rights, which they launched together at the United Nations General Assembly last year to empower workers and combat some of the most important problems facing workers,” the statement said.
