LONDON (AP) — Manchester City has been fined more than 2 million pounds ($2.5 million) by the Premier League for delaying the start or restarting of games 22 times.

City accepted the penalty, which corresponds to infractions in the past two games. The matter is related to 115 charges of financial regulatory violations faced by the team.

The Premier League said in a statement on Wednesday that “the Premier League and Manchester City Football Club have reached an agreement on sanctions following the club’s admission of a breach of Premier League Rule L.33 regarding kick-off and restart obligations”.

City were punished from most to least for each attack. The first was a warning due to a delay of 1 minute and 18 seconds in the start of the make-up game against Crystal Palace in August 2022.

They were fined for subsequent violations. The longest was two minutes and 46 seconds into the final game of the season against West Ham United, when City confirmed their fourth consecutive title. City were fined £200,000 ($256,000) for the breach, their 14th of the season.

The fine is £2,090,000.

“The rules relating to starts and restarts help ensure that the organization of competitions maintains high professional standards and provide certainty for participating fans and clubs,” the Premier League said in a statement. “It also ensures that all 380 matches around the world are On-time broadcast of the league.”

He said City “apologized and accepted the breach… and confirmed that they reminded the players and coaching staff of their responsibility to comply with Rule L.33.”
