Helga has now had 12 burglaries – Go to the story

The alarm in her jewelery shop in Mariager had gone off and there had been a burglary.

The door to the shop had been broken open, there was glass all over the floor and jewelery worth almost a million kroner had disappeared from the shop.

– Wedding rings with diamonds, gold jewelery and vintage jewelery have been taken. I feel really, really bad about it, says a very affected Helga Winther.

– There have been some who knew what they were after.

Already on Wednesday, the jewelery shop will open again for customers.

– We will have to open again today, because we do a lot of repairs, and the customers have to be able to pick up their jewellery, so we spent the day yesterday cleaning up. There are many things that we have to go out and buy again because they have been stolen or smashed, says the jewelery designer.

There was glass scattered all over the floor after the break-in.

12. Burglary in Mariager

It is not the first time that Helga Winther has had her shop broken into – unfortunately far from it.

– This is the 12th time I have had a break-in at the shop in Mariager, says Helga Winther, who has had a shop in Mariager since 2003.

– You lose motivation when something like this happens, but at the same time the shop is my whole life, so I can’t just quit, says Helga Winther.

The shop was previously located in another building, but after the 11th burglary, Helga Winther decided, six years ago, to move the shop into the old bank building on Mariager Torv.

Here, the building was built to keep burglars at bay.

– I soon don’t know what else I can do to avoid break-ins. I have a bank safe for many of the jewellery, iron bars for the window and every day we spend a long time unpacking the jewelery when we close and unpacking it when we open. But we can’t pack down the whole store every day, even if it seems necessary.

In the midst of all the calamity, Helga Winther is nevertheless pleased that the North Jutland Police are taking the case very seriously.

– I think they are looking at it very seriously this time. And they also say that they will attach great importance to the case, and I definitely have the impression that they do, says the jewelery designer.

If you have any information about the break-in, you can contact North Jutland Police on 1-1-4.
