In “Deadpool & Wolverine,” Hugh Jackman plays all his variants except one… And it’s a well-known and beloved actor who lends his features to the mutant. Here’s the rundown for you.

When Hugh Jackman announced that there would be multiple variants of Logan in Deadpool & Wolverine, fans went wild. Since then, rumors have circulated about Daniel Radcliffe, Taron Egerton, Pablo Schreiber, and even Henry Cavill playing the various variants (Patch, Old Man Logan, The Reavers’ Wolverine, Mini Logan…).
However, it is indeed Hugh Jackman who embodies most of the variants in Deadpool & Wolverine. Only one other actor slips into the skin of the clawed mutant. An awaited cameo since it’s Henry Cavill!
The former Superman of DC plays the role of the variant in a white t-shirt who repairs his motorcycle and smokes a cigar, nicknamed Cavillrine by Wade Wilson. This style also recalls Hugh Jackman’s in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
During the scene, Deadpool tells him that if he came with him, he would be treated better than in his former superhero franchise. A nod to Henry Cavill’s replacement by David Corenswet in the new DC universe by James Gunn after the actor’s appearance as Superman in the post-credit scene of Black Adam.
A nice nod to the British actor and the fans, as Henry Cavill was the favorite to take over from Hugh Jackman in the role of the clawed mutant.
However, the former DC hero specified in November 2022 to USA Today that he found it complicated to take on a role already held for many years by another actor: “It’s very flattering to read articles where I’m placed as a favorite for James Bond or Wolverine. I appreciate it, of course. But it all depends on the time I have, and these roles must be respected and require a lot of work. You can’t jump from one iconic role to another without having time to prepare for it.
A nudge to join Marvel?
Could this brief appearance translate into a real role within the MCU? It’s possible since Deadpool gives a nudge to Henry Cavill by suggesting he join Marvel. And the English actor already has an idea in mind regarding the role he would like to hold.
In November 2021, the 41-year-old actor, currently starring in The Ministry of Dirty War on Prime Video, announced to The Hollywood Reporter that he would like to portray Captain Britain.
“If I were to play a Marvel superhero, I wouldn’t choose a character that has already been portrayed by someone else because everyone does a great job. However, I’ve seen the different rumors concerning Captain Britain, and it would be very fun to do a cool, modern version of this character – like they modernized Captain America.”
Will Henry Cavill return to the MCU? Stay tuned! In the meantime, don’t miss his cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine, currently in theaters.
