Protests against pots and pans were reported in Greater Caracas for the second consecutive day

This Tuesday, July 30, protests against the presidential election were reported in Greater Caracas for the second consecutive day, in protest of the results of the presidential elections issued by the National Electoral Council (CNE).

Some of the areas of Greater Caracas where pots and pans were heard are: La Vega, Petare, California Norte, Catia, El Valle, Manzanares, El Silencio, 23 de Enero, Baralt Avenue, Antímano, Caricuao, among other sectors.

“Cacerolazos (pot banging) again in Petare. Here we will not give up or let ourselves be intimidated!” wrote a user on X (formerly Twitter).

In El Cementerio, La Cota 905 and Ruiz Pineda, pot-banging protests were also reported on social media.

Caracas and the interior of the country protested with pots and pans

On the morning of July 29, hours after the CNE offered the results of the presidential elections, Residents of Greater Caracas started a cacerolazo from their homes. The peaceful demonstrations began at approximately 10:00 am.

Citizens shared videos with The newspaper of the cacerolazos in areas both in the west of Caracas in the Libertador municipality, and in the Miranda municipalities of Sucre, Baruta and Guaicaipuro.

In addition to the sound of pots and pans, some of the protesters also shouted slogans such as “Chavez did not win here” to refer to the reason for their protests.

Among the areas of Caracas where cacerolazos were documented are: Altagracia, La Pastora, San Bernardino, San Jose, La Florida, La Vega; La Candelaria, Parque Central, El Paraiso, January 23, El Silencio and Propatria.

After 12:00 pm, social media users shared videos of cacerolazos in different cities in the interior of the country. Some of the states where this type of protests were recorded were Carabobo, Anzoátegui, Lara, Aragua, Portuguesa, Táchira, Sucre, La Guaira and Bolívar.

“Cacerolazo (pot banging) in Esmeralda, San Diego, Carabobo. People are just tired,” commented one user on X. In that state, protests of this type were also reported in Valencia and Naguanagua.

Questioned results

Elvis Amoroso, head of the National Electoral Council (CNE), announced in the early hours of July 29 that Nicolás Maduro was elected President of the Republic with more than 5 million votes. However, the Electoral Power has not published the minutes confirming the victory of the official leader.

Given the lack of clarity and transparency of the CNE regarding the electoral process, leaders from different countries have urged the governing body to publish detailed results as soon as possible.
