The Guatemalan qualified for the final after a playoff between six rivals and then secured a place on the podium by scoring 35 points out of a possible 50.

Brol achieved this success in his second Olympic Games, 12 years after his debut in London 2012, when Erick Barrondo opened the Guatemalan medal count in the Olympic Games, AFP noted.

The 41-year-old shooter managed to take the Olympic bronze after two days of competition at the Chaterauroux Shooting Centre in France. and climbing onto the podium alongside Britain’s Nathan Hales (gold) and China’s Qi Ying (silver).

Guatemala’s triumph at the Olympic Games sparked social media, where Guatemalans celebrated Jean Pierre Brol’s victory.

The country’s leaders and other authorities also spoke out about Guatemala’s achievements at the Olympics in France.

“National pride! We congratulate Jean Pierre Brol for flying high the colours of our flag by winning the bronze medal in hunting gun shooting. This is the second Olympic medal in our history. Bravo, Jean Pierre!” the Guatemalan government posted on social media.

Meanwhile, the President of the Republic, Bernardo Arévalo, on social network X highlighted: “Historic moment for Guatemala! Jean Pierre Brol has won the bronze medal. Thank you for representing the colors of Guatemala with pride.”

Vice President Karin Herrera wrote: “All our support and pride for Jean Pierre Brol in the men’s trap final in Chaterauroux, France! We are with you, showing the talent and determination of Guatemala. Go Jean Pierre!”

“President Nery Ramos, members of the Permanent Commission and deputies, recognize and thank Jean Pierre Brol for his effort, dedication, love of sport and his achievement in obtaining the second Olympic medal for Guatemala,” the Congress of the Republic published on the social network X.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office stated: “We applaud and celebrate this important achievement for the sport of our country. Thank you Jean Pierre Brol for reminding us that Guatemalans are capable of achieving great challenges.”
