China on Tuesday called for “respect for the choice made by the Venezuelan people,” after some countries and organizations questioned the results of the presidential elections in which the current president, Nicolas Madurowas re-elected.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian stressed at a press conference that he believes that “the Venezuelan people and government are capable of managing their own internal affairs.”
Lin called on “all parties to respect the choice made” by Venezuelan citizens.

On Monday, China congratulated Venezuela for a “successful” election and Maduro for his re-election, after the National Electoral Council (CNE) announced his victory in the elections held on Sunday.
Lin said on Monday that his country “attaches great importance to the development of relations between China and Venezuela” and that Beijing is “willing to work” with Caracas to “enrich the content” of their strategic partnership.
