This series is based on the true story of the first woman to enter the legal profession in Japanese history. It depicts the passionate efforts of those in the legal field who faced difficult times and paved their way without any clear path.
Yumi, played by Mai, returns to the Inotsume family home in Nobuto with Torako after finishing their life in Niigata. She is depicted as someone who thinks calmly and communicates her opinions honestly to Torako.
Mai commented, “I was really looking forward to ‘Tora ni Tsubasa’ every morning as a viewer. The scene where Tora-chan bids farewell to Yusuke made me cry a lot. I am very happy to be part of such a wonderful production as the role of Yumi. Various family dynamics and issues will continue to be depicted, and playing Yumi has taught me a lot as well. I would be delighted if viewers can also feel Yusuke’s kindness in Yumi.”
Yoshimi, who plays Hoshi Yuri, is the remarried partner of the first Chief Justice Hoshi Tomohiko and continues to protect the Hoshi family after her husband’s passing. She has a gentle personality and is fond of Koichi’s children.
Yoshimi expressed, “I am very pleased to be able to participate in the production of ‘Tora ni Tsubasa,’ which I have always enjoyed watching. This is my first ‘Asa-dora’ since ‘Hanbun, Aoi.’ My character is a woman who lived through the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa periods. It is a fun task to consider and imagine family and marital dynamics of that time. I will cherish and take on the script by Erika Yoshida with great care.”
Production supervisor Hirokazu Ozaki stated, “Torako is currently in the midst of creating a ‘foundation’ in Niigata, but will eventually return to Tokyo as a judge. In Tokyo, Torako will encounter new experiences and people as a new life begins for her. We have asked Mai Ida and Yoshimi Yodogawa to portray key characters in this story. I am also very excited to see how the interactions unfold between the two and the familiar faces that will reappear alongside Torako!”
The morning drama “Tora ni Tsubasa” airs on NHK General every week from Monday to Saturday at 8 AM and other times.
