The Guatemalan athlete Jean Pierre Brol made history this Tuesday, July 30, by winning the bronze medal in the Olympic trap event in Paris 2024.
The Olympic medal won by Brol is the second in the history of Guatemalafollowing Érick Barrondo’s silver medal in the 20-kilometer race walk at the London Olympics.
Just moments after his historic triumph, Jean Pierre Brol spoke to the media and expressed his joy after winning the top sporting event in the world.
Brol, 41, said the first thing that went through his mind after receiving the bronze medal was talk to his family and share with them his feat at the Paris Olympic Games.
“I am looking forward to speaking with my wife, my children, my brothers and my mother, so I can share my first impressions with them. That’s the first thing that comes to mind now.”he mentioned.

Besides, Jean Pierre Brol said that, until then, he had not yet realized the importance of obtaining a medal at the Olympic Games. and assured that he had prepared from the beginning to enter the podium of the competition.
“I don’t think I have yet realized the value of this medal. One always wants more. I tell you that I had the mentality of coming to win the gold and I was ready to do it. Things didn’t work out for me, but thank God anyway. Before starting a competition I always ask Him to give me the composure and wisdom to handle the situation. He gave it to me and here is the result,” he shared.

Finally, Brol spoke about the difficulties involved in practicing an Olympic sport and being a father; However, he was grateful for the unconditional support of his wife and children throughout his career.
“My son is six years old, six years of combining sport with work and being a father. Being a husband and head of the family is not easy, it is complicated. Thank God I have a good wife who supports me. My children miss me but they are also sending me a lot of strength,” she concluded.
