“The left that wants to change people’s lives through governance must be inspired by models of social and solidarity economy support”

CLike many others, I felt a sense of immense relief on Sunday, July 7, when the results of the legislative elections were announced. I, like many others, also felt the wind of hope that this unexpected result for the New Popular Front (NFP) brought. I know what responsibility he bears for the supposedly moribund Republican Front reaction, but I also know that within that reaction he is responsible for the mobilization of hundreds of thousands of citizens, community activists and the wider social and economic solidarity (ESS).

I am one of them and I did not hesitate to take my share of responsibility after the announcement of this baroque dissolution, which seemed to lead to the inevitable victory of the extreme right. The President of the Republic himself seemed to have resigned himself to this victory, or he was calculating dishonorably. The voters rejected him and gave him a crushing defeat, imposing on him a complex equation.

The reaction of the institution belongs to him, but it is difficult to see how the President of the Republic could deviate from the logic of the institution or the choice of the electorate by refusing to call on Lucy Custer to form a government, and the National Liberal Party is a group that already comes to mind. At this stage, any other configuration would be just tinkering.

Of course, the New Popular Front does not have a majority, but judging by the polls, its legitimacy is indisputable. Does he have internal contradictions? What a joke: is there a single political line in the outgoing majority that justifies any moral lesson? Are his plans inconsistent with France’s budget commitments? What a hypocrisy: are they respected by the outgoing majority?

Real Finance

I am a Republican who is uncompromising in the constitutional principles and spirit that must determine political life and the duties of our leaders. For my part, I am committed to my economic and social responsibilities.

I am a banker and I am left-wing. There is no contradiction. Finance is real finance when it is ethical, committed or collaborative, and when the ideals of the social and solidarity economy that I hold dear are real. As former president of ESS France, the French Chamber of Social and Solidarity Economy, I can see its strength and its relevance to the More than 200,000 companies and organizations across all economic sectors.

I like the truth in politics. Implementing a non-farm payroll program is no easy task. As a business leader, I know the limitations and adverse effects, including on the social and solidarity economy sectors, for example, in terms of raising the minimum wage.
