Italian PM warns Tel Aviv against ‘falling into Lebanon trap’

In her statements, Meloni said: “I express my concern about the tensions between Lebanon and Israel and warn of the risk of regional escalation,” adding: “There are regional parties trying to provoke Israel and Tel Aviv must not fall into the trap.”

Meloni added, “China can play an important role in normalizing relations between Arab countries and Israel, due to its relations with Tehran and Riyadh.”

Last Sunday, the Italian capital, Rome, hosted a meeting that included the head of the Israeli Mossad, David Barnea, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman, the Director of Egyptian Intelligence, Abbas Kamel, and the Director of the American Central Intelligence Agency, William Burns, as part of a new round of talks on reaching a ceasefire agreement and prisoner exchange between Israel and the factions movement, ten months after the outbreak of the war in the Gaza Strip.

In this regard, the factions movement said in a statement that the proposal conveyed by the mediators after the Rome meeting is a return of the Israeli side to the strategy of procrastination and evasion of reaching an agreement.

The Lebanese factions have repeatedly stressed that reaching a ceasefire agreement in Gaza will inevitably extend to the Lebanese front, but recent days have witnessed an escalation in the field situation, after Israel accused the Lebanese factions of being responsible for the killing of 12 children and the injury of others by a missile that fell on the town of Majdal Shams in the occupied Golan, while the Lebanese factions denied any connection to the matter.
