Repression and arrests against protesters reported in Chacao

  • Citizens gathered to express their disagreement with the results of the presidential election issued by the CNE

Officials of the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB) repressed protesters who gathered on the Francisco Fajardo highway near El Rosal in Chacao on the afternoon of Monday, July 29.

The police also attacked a protest located in Altamira. The media outlet VPI reported the arrest of several protesters.

In images broadcast by the media, the GNB was seen firing tear gas and pellets at the demonstration, while people tried to continue the march towards the west of Caracas.

In addition, it was observed that one of the motorcycles used by the GNB was burned, however, the origin of the flames is unknown.

Citizens gathered in several areas of Greater Caracas to express their discontent with the results of the presidential election issued by the National Electoral Council (CNE).

The protesters located on Luis Roche Avenue in Altamira relocated to Francisco de Miranda Avenue at approximately 5:17 pm.

Other repressions in Caracas

GNB officers also repressed a group of citizens gathered in the El Paraíso tunnel, near El Cementerio.

In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), members of the Armed Forces were seen firing tear gas at residents in the area.

“The Armed Forces have freed the tunnels blocked by the squalids. They will not be able to defeat us,” said one of the GNB officials.

Protests in Greater Caracas

Since the morning of Monday, July 29, dozens of demonstrations in various parts of Greater Caracas. Citizens gathered to reject the results that declared Nicolás Maduro the winner of the presidential elections.

Former candidate for Mayor of Sucre, Andrés Schloeter, reported through his X account about a protest in the La Dolorita neighborhood, in Petare (Miranda).

“This is how La Dolorita is right now. The same is happening in many areas of Petare,” said Sshloeter.

It was also learned that residents of the 5 de Julio sector demonstrated on the Gran Cacique Guaicaipuro highway in the Guarenas-Guatire direction, in Miranda.

A group of citizens blocked other parts of the Gran Cacique Guaicaipuro highway, one of the concentrations was registered at the El Pulpo distributor at the height of the Cemetery, where a group of people blocked the passage and burned tires.

Towards the west of the city, citizens protested in Propatria and on Avenida el Cuartel de Catia. Residents of these areas used the phrase “electoral fraud” as a slogan to refer to the results given by Elvis Amoroso, head of the CNE.

In addition, residents of the El Limón and La Cruz sectors on the Caracas-La Guaira highway went out to protest. People closed the road and burned tires, scrap metal and tree trunks. According to reports on social media, riot police arrived at the scene.
