Aalborg: second wave of tours from Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, as well as home games for Austria and Rapid Vienna

After the last weekend of July brings the first peak of summer travel in 2024, ARBÖ said that traffic on the first weekend of August will not be without long traffic jams and delays. The reason for this, in addition to the second wave of holiday travel from the German states of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, is also return traffic. SK Rapid is also likely to cause two traffic jams in Vienna this week.

In addition to the already mentioned second wave of trips from Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, there is a “promotion” of return trips after the holidays in the German states of Bremen, Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt is also booming. While congestion and delays won’t be as long as they were a week ago, the main travel day – Saturday – and congested routes will remain largely unchanged.

The following routes next weekend also require a lot of patience:

  • West Autobahn (A1) in the Greater Salzburg Area and before the Walselberg crossing
  • Innkreis motorway (A8), construction site area between Ried and Ort
  • Pyhrnautobahn (A9), in front of the oncoming traffic area between Klaus and Inzersdorf and between Treglwang and Trieben
  • Tauernautobahn (A10), between Welden and Flachau and in front of the Kachberg Tunnel and Villach junction
  • Karavanken Motorway (A11) or A2 in Slovenia, before the Karavanken Tunnel on arrival and departure
  • Inntalautobahn (A12), before the Kufstein/Kieversfeden crossing
  • Seefelder Straße (B177), in front of the Zirler Berg construction site
  • Fernpass route (B179), along part of the entire route with block gaps before the Lermoosertunnel and Vils/Füssen border tunnel

“We also advise travelers to be patient in front of the Ziegelbrücke border crossing, on the A9 or Slovenian A1 motorway, at the Suben/Pasau border and on the A8 or German A3 motorway,” says ARBÖ traffic expert Thomas Haider.

In neighboring Bavaria, the Munich-Salzburg (A8) and Rosenheim-Kufstein (A93) lines are “classic” lines with heavy traffic. In Italy, the longest traffic jams are most likely to occur on the Brenner Autobahn (A22) in South Tyrol.

Between: 2 home games for SK Rapid and 1 home game for FK Austria leading to traffic jams in Vienna

SK Rapid Wien will host two games this week for fans and visitors at their home stadium, the Allianz Arena. On Thursday, August 1, 2024, FC Wisla Krakow will play the second leg of the second qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League at the Football Stadium in Vienna West at 8:30 pm. According to ARBÖ, tens of thousands of fans, many of whom will arrive in motor vehicles, will still cause traffic congestion around the event. Experience shows that Deutschordenstrasse, Hadikgasse, Keißlergasse and Linzer Strasse are particularly affected. “The cabin will almost certainly be full” for the match against defending champions SK Sturm Graz on Sunday, 4 August 2024, at the start of the 2024/2025 Bundesliga season. Traffic jams before and after the 5pm game start will affect the same roads as Thursday but will last longer.

“Allianz Station is easily accessible via the U4 underground line, tram lines 49 and 52, express trains S45, S50 and S80, as well as various bus routes and public transport such as the ÖBB and Westbahn,” says ARBÖ expert Thomas Haider.

Austria Vienna will host Ilves Tampere in a UEFA Conference League second round second leg tie on Wednesday, 31 August 2024, at 8:30 pm at the Generali Arena. The 15,600-seat stadium will be at least full, if not full, as chances of promotion remain open after a 2-1 away defeat. In ARBÖ’s experience, well-attended Austrian home games mean traffic jams and long delays on the area’s southeastern tangent (A23), at the entrance and exit of the Favoriten distribution circle, and in the distribution circle itself. and sage advice for motorists planning longer delays after the final whistle.

“Generali Stadium can be reached by public transport via the U1 metro line and bus lines 15A, 68A and 68B”, concludes the ARBÖ transport experts.
