2,700 Cuban doctors will arrive at clinics in Mexico

MEXICO CITY.- In addition to the Cuban doctors who already work in the country, thanks to a agreement between the governments of Andrés Manuel López Obrador and Miguel Díaz-Canel Another 2,700 island professionals will arrive to work in Mexican territory.

At today’s morning conference, IMSS director Zoé Robledo Aburto recalled that in Mexico 950 Cuban specialist doctors are already working in 23 states from the country.

“This agreement will strengthen the operation of 282 basic, community and comprehensive hospitals located in rural or highly marginalized areas.”

According to the official, the health workers incorporated will cover core specialtiesincluding internal medicine, pediatrics, and emergency medicine.

“In this way, the workforce will increase from four doctors to an average of 12 in priority hospitals, where surgical interventions can now be carried out with a full staff,” he explained.

“That will avoid something that generates a lot of frustration among people in these basic and community hospitals that are in very remote areas,” he said.

For his part, López Obrador thanked the Díaz-Canel government for its support.
