Cuba reports on electric tricycles with digital payment 2024-07-30 03:23:59

The Minister of Transport in Cuba, Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, reported on the entry into operation of electric tricycles in the east of the island. Payment will be electronic.

In a Facebook post, the head of Mitrans announced that “the 20 electric tricycles are now ready to begin passenger transportation services in the city of Guantánamo, on several routes.”

According to information offered, the price of each section is 10 CUP and, as a novelty, for the first time in Cuba, this service can be paid for by electronic transfer.

For this purpose, QR codes were enabled, in addition to the possibility of paying in the traditional way in cash.

The 3 routes that started in the city are:

  1. Exit at Pedro A. Pérez and Pintó; join Calixto García to Paseo; 4 west to the General Teaching Hospital. 10 means with 3.5 km of route.
  1. Departure from Almacén 621 in San Justo, take Prado Street to Moncada, then take Paseo Street to Pedro A. Pérez, 9 north to the General Teaching Hospital. 5 vehicles with a length of 4.2 km.
  1. Departure from the Pediatric Hospital, join the 8 West, Circunvalante West to the General Teaching Hospital. 5 means.

Tricycles in Santiago de Cuba

In a previous post, Rodríguez Dávil announced that the first 10 electric tricycles are already operating in Santiago de Cuba, all on a single route.

“The other 10, which complete the 20 assigned to that city, will be active in August,” he said.

The route in the city considered to be the second most important in Cuba is: Barca de Oro – the buses – Patria Avenue – Jesús Menéndez Avenue (Alameda) to the Trocha – Carretera del Morro intersection.

Cubans’ opinions on these transportation alternatives

User Rafael Castillo said: “Bravo to the people of Santiago and Guantanamo. Here in Havana it is a disaster. Today I had to wait from 7:40 to 8:20 am on July 27 at the Bus Terminal bound for the Train Terminal, there was only one tricycle on that route.”

On the other hand, Jose Ernesto González García expressed his wish that this “be a productive service and not the same thing happen as with the current ones, where you almost always have to rent at super abusive prices.”
