New York to activate mobile units to process Real ID in August

The New York Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has activated mobile units so that residents can apply for a Real ID.

These units will be opened so that citizens and residents can obtain identification without having to make an appointment.

The Real ID is an identification document that will be mandatory starting May 7, 2025, to board domestic flights or enter federal buildings.

New York is one of the states in the United States (US) that is strongly promoting the faster and easier way to obtain this card.

Not having a Real ID could cost the user a fine of $500 or go to jail for approximately six months. It is known that this sanction applies both in New York and in all US states.

Mobile units for August in New York

  • Robert Moses State Park (August 3).
  • The Shops at Nanuet, Nanuet (August 10 and 11).
  • Colonie Center Mall (August 10).
  • Altamont Fair (August 13 – August 18).
  • Walt Whitman Shops, Long Island (17 de Agosto).
  • Roosevelt Field, Long Island (24 y 25 de agosto).
  • New York State Fair (August 21 – September 2).

DMV Staff is available three days a week during peak travel times at Albany International Airport, Syracuse Hancock International Airport, La Guardia Airport and Long Island MacArthur Airport to provide information to travelers and residents about this law and its requirements.
