The film’s director told Independent Urdu in an exclusive interview that the film is made in the ‘Khawar’ language of Chitral and has English subtitles.

Manahil, who played the lead role in the film, told Independent Urdu: ‘It all became easier when we started being accepted. This journey started when we won the match against a strong team in Naltar.’

This was Munahal’s first acting experience and she seemed very excited about it. She says that she wants to make ice hockey a profession.

Canadian High Commission First Secretary Amanda de Sadlier was asked by Independent Urdu why the ice hockey project was chosen.

To this he replied: ‘It has been a very exciting project for us for the last four years. It is part of our public diplomacy in which we participate in the cold weather festivals of the remote hill population. It also introduced us to ice hockey, which is very popular with the Canadian public.’

He said that apart from empowering women in Pakistan, they are working in local partnerships on topics like climate change.

When asked about Canada’s stance on climate change in Pakistan, he said: ‘Climate change is affecting all of us and we are facing an environmental crisis. Canada also experienced wildfires in the summer, while a devastating storm recently hit the country.

“Both countries are going through climate change and it can be discussed together and solutions can be found.”

He hoped Manahil’s story would pave the way for women and younger girls to play ice hockey.
