Machado asks the table witnesses to ensure the voting record of the elections

Caracas, Jul 28 (EFE).- Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado has asked electoral witnesses to ensure that the voting record of the presidential elections taking place this Sunday is complete, when polling stations begin to close at 6:00 p.m. local time (10:00 p.m. GMT), as established by the National Electoral Council, provided that there are no people waiting to vote.

“To all witnesses: you have the right to take the minutes. The minutes are proof, make sure you have them and follow the Command protocol,” said X Machado on social media. Machado supports the candidacy of Edmundo González Urrutia, standard-bearer of the largest opposition coalition, the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD).

For his part, PUD advisor Perkins Rocha recalled that “Article 140 of the Organic Law of Electoral Processes” establishes that “the act of scrutiny is public and the members of the Electoral Board will allow the presence of voters and electoral witnesses in the premises, with no limitations other than those derived from the physical capacity of the premises and the security of the electoral act.”

“It is your right and it must happen after closing, at 6:00 pm,” Rocha reminded on social network X.

Earlier, González Urrutia’s campaign command reported that some of its electoral witnesses had been denied access to the voting centers, although this was a small percentage, since 91% of its witnesses were formally accredited and operational, said former deputy Delsa Solórzano, on behalf of the PUD.

The opposition coalition has insisted on monitoring the votes through witnesses, who “are the technical eyes, the qualified eyes that citizens have” for the transparency of these elections, in which ten candidates participate, including President Nicolás Maduro, who is seeking re-election.
