Venezuela: Opposition does not recognize Maduro’s election victory

Venezuela has a new president, and his name is Edmundo González, said opposition politician María Corina Machado on Monday. He received 70 percent of the votes. The electoral authority had previously declared President Nicolás Maduro the winner.

Support for González is obvious, Machado said. Several post-election polls and counts showed that the opposition had won the presidential election.

The electoral authority had recently declared the socialist Maduro the winner of the election. Maduro received 51 percent of the votes, while Gonzalez only received 44 percent, it said.
