This was confirmed to EFE by sources from the Ministry, who have indicated that the efforts made in Madrid and Caracas regarding the reporter’s situation have borne fruit.

According to OkDiario, the media outlet for which Minuesa works, the contacts between the Foreign Ministry and the Venezuelan Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs have been successful and the regime has decided to deport the special correspondent of this outlet.

Transfer to Bogota

The reporter is being transferred to Bogotá (Colombia) to be deported to Spain, according to OKDiario and confirmed by Foreign Affairs.

The PP and Vox had asked the Government to intercede with the Venezuelan Government upon learning of the situation of the Spanish journalist who had travelled to Venezuela to cover the elections.

Vox president Santiago Abascal has even sent a letter to the Minister of Foreign Affairs asking for “forcefulness” in diplomatic efforts to demand and obtain the immediate release of Minuesa, who he claimed had been detained by the Venezuelan intelligence service.

The PP has also echoed the arrest and its general secretary, Cuca Gamarra, has asked the government to intervene to secure the release of the journalist and “all the Spaniards detained by Maduro in defence of democratic values”, without specifying who she was referring to.

There are no more Spanish detainees on record

Foreign Ministry sources have assured EFE that they are not aware of any more Spaniards being held in Venezuela following Sunday’s presidential elections.

For his part, the PP spokesman in Congress, Miguel Tellado, has also called on the social network X for Minuesa’s release and has accused the Maduro regime of wanting to “gag” reporters who tell the world about “its democratic abuses and the reality of what is happening in Venezuela.”
