Several of the LGBTQ strategic authorities in Sweden will gather for the first time at Pride House on July 31 for a joint seminar day. The seminars are open to everyone and are intended to spread knowledge about the work to strengthen the rights, health and living conditions of LGBTQ people throughout the country.
This year’s theme for Pride is “Stronger together”, and together the majority of the authorities designated by the government as LGBTQ strategic authorities will gather for a joint seminar day on July 31 at Pride House. It is the first time that a joint authority seminar has been held during Pride. The hope is to be able to contribute to an overall picture of the important work being done in the area.
– Public health policy in Sweden is based on creating social conditions for good and equal health in the entire population. This means that knowledge about LGBTQI people’s equal rights and opportunities needs to increase. It is gratifying that we can have this joint day and we thank Stockholm Pride’s organization for giving us the opportunity, says Karin Tegmark Wisell, Director General of the Public Health Authority.
The Norwegian Public Health Agency is one of twelve LGBTQ strategic authorities in Sweden. The Public Health Agency is tasked with coordinating and providing support to the work of the LGBTQI strategic authorities within the framework of the government’s action plan for LGBTQI people’s equal rights and opportunities. The authority must also follow up on how the work progresses. The action plan’s focus areas are, among others, violence and discrimination, health care and social initiatives.
– It is through knowledge that we can follow developments and identify where and how discrimination and unequal living conditions limit the everyday life of LGBTQI people. It also gives us the opportunity to push for change, which is part of our mission, says Karin Tegmark Wisell.
In 2024, the Public Health Agency has published several knowledge-raising reports, where the report on the health and living conditions of bisexuals will be presented in more detail on the seminar day, as well as an interview study on the health and living conditions of older LGBTQ people.
The seminars are also broadcast digitally.
