Coffee sector agreed on steps to strengthen production of the sector

On Monday, 15 spokespersons for the coffee producing sector met with authorities of the National Government, at the headquarters of the Vice Presidency of the Republic, to reach agreements related to the sector.

This was reported by the Minister of Popular Power for Agriculture and Lands, Wilmar Castro Soteldo, through your account on the social network, in which he noted that “important steps to strengthen the production of this sector” were agreed upon at the meeting.

The Ministers of Commerce Luis Villegas and Communes Angel Prado participated in the event; as well as community members, men and women peasants from the coffee sector.

In this sense, Castro Soteldo, in another publication, posted a document with the agreements reached by the sector at the meeting.

Among them, it stands out “to comply with the provisions of Official Gazette No. 42.721, dated September 25, 2023, in relation to the producer price calculation mechanism, taking as fundamental references the production cost structure and the behavior of commoditie.”

Likewise, the review of articles 4 and 5 of said Gazette, which establish the creation of the National High Level Technical Commission for the Coffee Sector and the National Inspection Committee for the Coffee Sector.

In addition, they suggest that the Autonomous Service of the National Fund of People’s Power (SAFONAPP) be designated for the administration and management of the Coffee Grower Support Fund, which is established in article 12 of Gazette 42.721.

Also that the implementation of the La Guapa roasting plants, in the state of Lara and Teresita Heredia, in Ospino, Portuguese state, be immediately agreed upon, in such a way as to promote the integrated coffee circuit in those two regions of the country.

Finally, they notify that the Fuel and Agricultural Inputs Supply Plan by PDVSA and Pequiven is already underway, and they ratify their support for President Maduro.

This meeting takes place after last July 13, President Maduro committed to enforcing coffee prices, and invite coffee growers to agree on a fair selling price for coffee and decree it in an official Gazette.
