MEMBER of the DKI Jakarta DPRD Muhammad Taufik Zoelkifli highlighted the bicycle lanes in Jakarta which have been increasingly less than ideal for two years since the leadership of Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono.

“It’s not (ideal) yet, and yesterday even when the governor changed there were bicycle lanes or the bicycle lane budget was reduced,” he explained to the media crew, Friday (26/7).

“And it does seem that in the last 2 years it has become less and less ideal,” added the PKS politician.

He said, some bike lanes were lost because there were new roads that were opened and used for other purposes. Then, for the existing lanes, maintenance was also very minimal.

“There are small broken pole signs. If they were to be replaced with lights, it would be better. But there is no budget so they probably won’t be repaired. That is the voice of cyclists,” he explained.

Furthermore, he said that in addition to being the government’s duty to provide safe and comfortable bicycle lanes, the public must also follow the regulations as facilities.

In addition, bicycle lanes are also one of the manifestations of a global city, therefore they need to be taken seriously by various parties.

“Hopefully, with good bicycle lanes in Jakarta, the number of cyclists can increase and it can be like a world city,” he explained.

“Jakarta said it wants to be a global city, so it has to be friendly to the environment and friendly to the residents,” he concluded. (Z-8)
