According to local police officials, a passenger in the private coach of the train used a gas cylinder to make tea, which caused the coach to catch fire and cause a loud explosion.

Tamil Nadu Minister for Commercial Taxes said that the accident took place around 5:30 am after which fire fighters reached the railway station at 7 am and brought the fire under control while the injured have been shifted to the hospital for immediate medical treatment. .

According to the Minister of Commercial Taxes, the passengers in the train belonged to the state of Uttar Pradesh and were going to perform religious rituals, but as a result of the accident, 10 people died.

According to the local authorities, the passengers had locked the coach from inside as part of safety measures. During the journey, an explosion occurred while making tea, which caught fire in the coach.

According to the officials, there were 63 passengers in the coach, while the dead include 6 men and 4 women and 7 people have been seriously injured in the accident, who are being treated at the hospital.
