Apple Intelligence will only arrive with iOS 18.1, says Mark Gurman

Last week, iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia 15, watchOS 11, tvOS 18, and visionOS 2 reached their fourth betas.

However, so far there is no sign of Apple Intelligence on iOS 18, iPadOS 18 or macOS 15. And, apparently, things will indeed be delayed a little.

According to Mark Gurmanreporter for BloombergApple will begin testing the iOS 18.1 (and possibly iPadOS 18.1 and macOS 15.1 as well) — finally with the first AI features the company announced at WWDC24.

That’s right: while we’ll continue testing the .0 versions, Apple will also start a beta phase for the .1 versions in parallel — probably because it plans to release them not long after the initial versions, perhaps sometime in October. Last year, testing of iPadOS 16.1 also started early.

It’s worth remembering that, although the new operating systems are expected to be released in mid-September, iOS specifically needs to be finalized a few weeks beforehand so that Apple has time to install it on the entire initial batch of new iPhones that will be released. In other words, this will probably happen in the second half of August.

Still, it’s worth noting that only a few of the features announced for Apple Intelligence will arrive with iOS 18.1 — and even then, only in English.
