Chaos is expected on Vilniaus Kalvarijų street: the rainwater network will be managed, traffic restrictions are expected | Business

Up to now, surface wastewater is collected in the domestic wastewater network managed by the company “Vilniaus vandenys” on Kalvarijõu Street in the central part of Vilnius city and its approaches. During more intense rain, the water flows create a heavy load on Kalvarijų st. main domestic sewage networks, Upės st. existing pumping station and biological domestic wastewater treatment facilities, balancing their operation.

Environmentalists emphasize that the treatment of relatively clean rainwater by channeling it into domestic sewage networks is several times more expensive than treating it separately, so this method of wastewater treatment is neither sustainable nor rational.

During the project, in the section of Kalvariju Street from the Green Bridge to Apkasaų St. a separate 2161 m long surface wastewater collector with a diameter of up to 1.5 m will be installed – rainwater will no longer be mixed with domestic wastewater. An underground surface sewage treatment plant with a capacity of 620 l/s will be installed on Upės Street, where rainwater will be cleaned of oil product residues and suspended matter.

Microtunneling technology will be used, which allows excavation work to be carried out deep underground. This technology has already been used in the reconstruction of T. Narbutos and Šeškinės streets in Vilnius. surface sewage networks. After the completion of the installation of the surface sewage network, the damaged or worn pavements and sidewalks of the roadway will be restored.
