Massive attack against train network in France reported

The National Railway Society French (SNCF) reported this Friday that a large number of trains were diverted or canceled due to a massive attack that sought to paralyze the network of high-speed lines, hours before the opening of the Paris Olympic Games.

Through its account on the social network “There have been arson attacks to damage our facilities,” he said.

In addition, they assured that they would contact the affected users and urged those who could “postpone their trip and not go to the station”, adding that all tickets for the trips that were interrupted “are exchangeable and refundable.”

Local media They reported that the attacks occurred between 1 and 5:30 local time in the morning, with fires in facilities that affected three of the four axles of the high-speed trains (TGV) that leave Paris, the French capital.

The affected hubs include the North, which serves London, Brussels, the Netherlands and northern Germany; of the East and the Atlantic, he reviewed Telesur.

For his part, the Minister of Transport of France, Patrice Vergriete, declared to a local television station that “everything indicates that these are criminal fires.”

Partial resumption of service

Hours later, SNCF reported that teams have been mobilized en masse since the morning and “emergency repairs have been carried out that allowed a partial and very gradual resumption of traffic.”

The company indicated that on the Atlantic axis “one in every three trains runs towards Brittany and New Aquitaine with travel times extended from 1h30 to 2h”, while on the North there are delays of an hour and a half to two hours, even several trains were cancelled.

Furthermore, on the East axis “the repairs have allowed normal traffic to be restored in Metz Nancy. Further on, in the direction of Strasbourg, the TGVs run with delays of 1 hour and some cancellations.”

“Repair work continues but traffic will continue to be interrupted this weekend,” he added to the company.

Problems during preparation for the Olympics

The collapse of the railway network is one of the various problems that have arisen in France during the preparations for the Olympic Games.

Media have reported on the possibility of strikes by workers demanding wage increases, among other demands, given the arrival of large numbers of visitors to Paris, which increases the workload. This includes employees in the health sector, hotels and police unions.

Another problem is the lack of food and items, reported by athletes who live in the Olympic Village, as well as the increase in crimes near the Olympic venues in the Ile-de-France region.

Unhealthiness in the Seine has also continued, since last June it was revealed that pollution levels were above the limits established by international regulations for an Olympic competition.

Added to this is the information shared about the forced displacement of some 500 homeless people in three days from various areas of Paris.
